Oliphant's oil paintings and prismacolor drawings focus on objects and architecture from the 40's and 50's that still exist in the present landscape. She travels the back roads of Maine and New England to find the overlooked landmarks she paints.
Penny Oliphant was born in 1955 in Binghamton, NY. Her family moved to Maine in 1957. In 1970, she helped establish a high school for independent study in Portland, Maine. Penny received a scholarship to attend The Portland School of Art during high school in 1972. She went on to study Fine Arts at the Art Institute of Boston from 1973 to 1975.
The artist paints full time at her studio in Pittsfield. She is affiliated with the Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset, and The Boothbay Regional Art Foundation Gallery in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Her work is in many private and public collections, including: The Owl's Head Transporation, The Owls Head Transportation Museum and Maine's Percent for Art Programs.
