Kathryn James, Executive Director

Besides her deep faith and love of artwork, Kathryn brings the experience of a lifetime in the workplace to the Lighthouse Arts Center.  Her artistic and scholarship accreditation includes Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees from the State University of New York, primarily through long distance learning, as well as several years of personal study with watercolorist Paul Elliott in Upstate New York.  She is a skilled watercolor artist and has taught classes for many years.  Her thirty years working in various positions for a large corporation has given her knowledge in time management, organizational skills, employee oversight and development, customer service handling, public relations and corporate planning.  And while she was doing all that, she completed the Famous Artists Course as well as wrote and self-published a biography.  She is excited to enter this new aspect of her lifetime and to share her love of Christ through the beauty of art.

Sadie Personeni, Gallery Director

Sadie 2.jpg

Sadie is a recent graduate of the University of Maine where she received her Bachelor's degree in Art Education and Studio Art, as well as earned her Maine K-12 Visual Arts Education Certification. Sadie grew up in the small town of South Berwick, Maine, where she discovered a love for creating art and found inspiration from her family, the surrounding community, and nature. While attending the University of Maine, Sadie found a passion for teaching and community based arts that she hopes to bring to the Lighthouse Arts Center. She enjoys experimenting in a wide array of media, but especially loves all forms of printmaking, ceramics, and drawing. Sadie is thankful to be a part of the Lighthouse Arts Center team and looks forward to involving the community and beyond in many exciting events, classes, and exhibitions to come!

Sarah.jpg

Sarah Thornton, Education Director

Sarah’s love for art started while she was a military brat, when her parents would take the family to local museums and sites wherever they were living.  Looking back, they were great adventures which fueled her love of prehistoric and ancient art.  Sarah’s passion for creating art started at an Art Center on a military base.  That Art Center gave her the opportunity to flex her creative muscles by introducing her to ceramics.  That creativity grew into a love of ceramic sculpture and hand-building.  Sarah has a Bachelors in Studio Art from Hastings College and later received a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Sarah is excited to utilize her passion for art and her business-related skills at the Lighthouse Arts Center.  She is so grateful to be able to give others the opportunity to find and strengthen their creative selves, just like she did when she stepped into her first Art Center 25 years ago.  The Lighthouse Arts Center is delighted to have Sarah on board.  Watch for her own hand-building classes, as she works to develop the ceramics/pottery area as well as the Education Center overall.

Rene 1.jpg

Rene Davis, Marketing Director

Rene Davis has been a Maine resident all her life.  She was raised in Belfast, where she worked in her parents’ gift shop.  After graduating from Husson College, Rene worked at WABI- TV/WABI-AM/WBGW- FM as a copywriter.  She met her husband Rick at WABI, where he was a videographer.  Rene has utilized her marketing skills in various ways over the years: Coordinator for Muscular Dystrophy Association for 15 years,  Sales Associate at WZON Radio, and handling promotions at  WVII-TV.  In 1998 Rene started her own advertising agency, and earned a reputation for quality work for many businesses, including representing the Bangor State Fair, Governors Restaurant, Feltbrook Golf Course and more.  Due to family health issues, Rene spent the next few years in retail, including JC Penneys, Dicks Sporting Goods, and ended up retiring from Lowe’s as the HR Manager in 2016.  Rene has volunteered her marketing and advertising skills with the Boys Scouts, MDA, Komen’s Race for the Cure, and many other organizations.   Her positive outlook and wild enthusiasm is a wonderful addition to all aspects of the business, whether it’s the Gallery, the Education Center or Events Planning. For anyone who knows Rene, she can’t stay still for long, so we are happy to have her handling the Marketing and Advertising programs for the Lighthouse.

Maggie Hopkins, Office Manager

Maggie grew up in Orland, Maine and graduated from Bucksport High School.  She also attended Hancock County Technical Center and became a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked at the Jed Prouty Assisted Living Center in Bucksport.  After having her beautiful daughter, Trinity, she decided to seek a different career path and eventually came to the Lighthouse Arts Center.  Maggie’s love for helping people and her curiosity to know more benefits the Lighthouse greatly, and she is finding new ways of exploring her own artistic interests.  She says that “Art is a great way to express your love and passion for whatever that may be for everyone.”  A Christian, Maggie has a great desire to learn and is working to secure a better future for herself and her daughter.  Working at the Lighthouse is helping her broaden her horizons and is opening up new worlds of opportunities.  We are lucky to have her as part of our team!
