Carol Latta

Carol Latta

Born and educated in Michigan, I began painting and photography at the age of twelve. Although I first majored in Art in college, I ultimately graduated with honors from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in 1970. I then worked as a Registered Nurse and raised my family before moving to Maine in 1997 where I was inspired to devote myself to both photography and painting.

As I am fortunate to spend most of my summer on our yawl, the "Carol Lyn", I photograph the magnificent Maine coast with its villages, islands, harbors, coves and classic sailing yachts from the deck of the boat. These inspirational photographs feed my passion to paint during the winter.

My objective is to share my privileged visual experiences and love of painting and photography with those who live in Maine and those who wish they did.

Vintage Regatta Sunset

Vintage Regatta Sunset

25x29 Framed Photo. Maine is the perfect place for a gathering of classic wooden sail boats.

Each year the Wooden Boat School hosts the Eggamoggin Reach Regatta in Jericho Bay. Up to 100 classic wooden sail boats compete. Weather conditions for racing are always variable. There can be essentially no wind and then the sailor who sticks his anchor in first to thwart the pull of the current wins. At other times, the wind can be blowing 25 knots in dense fog.

One weather condition seems to be fairly consistent. After an exciting day of racing, Maine skies often reward us with the most spectacular sunsets....a colorful gracing of the traditional, grand ladies of sail.
